Russian state-controlled diamond miner ALROSA’s cutting and polishing division DIAMONDS ALROSA has announced that it will auction its own polished diamonds during the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair in September. There will be two auctions, one for large sizes and fancy colours and the second for small goods and browns.

The first auction will take place September 13-17 and feature large colourless diamonds, as well as certified fancy colours, including yellow, green, orange and purple.

The second auction will be held September 19-22 and feature small and medium goods as well as brown diamonds.

“We have chosen this assortment in accordance with demand on the Asian market. Large diamonds of more than 5 carats are very desirable for premium segment jewellery, and diamonds of less than 1 carat for the mass range. In addition, this will be the first time that we present the full range of fancy colour diamonds from Almazy Anabara,” said DIAMONDS ALROSA Director Pavel Vinikhin.
DIAMONDS ALROSA will also showcase The Dynasty, a unique collection of special diamonds polished from a single piece of rough, to potential clients during the Hong Kong fair. The collection will be sold at a special online auction scheduled for November this year.

The Dynasty collection consists of five diamonds and was created from a 179-carat rough diamond called The Romanovs, which was recovered from the Nyurbinskaya kimberlite pipe in Yakutia in 2015. It took a year and a half to create the collection.

The collection’s main stone is a 51.38-carat round brilliant graded as Triple Excellent, D, VVS1. ALROSA says it is the most expensive diamond to have been cut and polished in Russia.

DIAMONDS ALROSA consists of two separate divisions. The eponymous Moscow-based arm DIAMONDS ALROSA works on large round diamonds over 1.8 carats as well as special sizes and fancy colours. This arm also handles its own marketing, working mainly through wholesale lots at monthly trading sessions. The other arm is ALROSA Diamonds Ltd. based in Barnaul, which works on smaller and off-colour goods.
